What pipe is this?

Measure the pipe and we’ll show what it could be. The chart below lists outside diameters for common pipe sizes and types.

Pipe size chart

All sizes in inches. Actual outside diameters vary by manufacturer, class, and age. Always measure the pipe and confirm with your fitting supplier before you order. Dimension ratio (DR) is outside diameter ÷ minimum wall and applies to plastic pipe. It is not used for iron, AC, or copper.

Chlorine feed calculator

How much chemical to feed for a dose. 1 MGD is about 694 GPM.

Enter a flow and dose to see results.

Liquid strength is the percent printed on the jug (grams of chlorine per 100 mL). Dry strength is percent available chlorine by weight, usually about 65. Always follow your plant’s feed procedures and safety rules.

Pipe volume and flushing

Gallons in a section of pipe, and how long to flush it. Pick a pipe from the chart or type the inside diameter.

Enter an inside diameter and length to see results.

Gallons per foot = 0.0408 × ID². Flushing velocity is often specified as at least 3 ft/s (AWWA C651 is the usual reference). Use the velocity and number of volume changes your specification requires.

Line disinfection calculator

Chlorine needed to disinfect a new or repaired main.

Enter an inside diameter and length to see results.

Use the dose and contact time your specification or state requires (AWWA C651 is the usual reference). Heavily chlorinated water must be neutralized and discharged according to your permit and local rules. This is a helper only.

Unit converter

Pick what you are converting, type a number, and see it in every unit.

Water loss calculator

Compare the water you produced or bought with the water you billed. The difference is your water loss. Use the same time period for every number, such as one month.

Enter the water produced and the water billed to see results.

Unaccounted-for water is produced minus billed minus authorized unbilled use. It includes leaks and main breaks, meter errors, theft, and unmetered use. This tool cannot tell you which one. Check what limit your state or funding agency uses for water loss. This is a helper only.
